Kees Overdevest: I have to make ceramics, it's my passion. Working with clay, a humble material, making things that surprise me, discovering new possibilities. Creating inspires me to create more. Nothing is definite, everything is possible. Technique? Everything that is useful, anything that works: stoneware, 1250-1300 degrees, wood kiln, electric kiln, gas kiln, slip cast, oxides, glazes, ashes...My work can look like a vase, a cup or a bowl etc. but is rarely made to serve that purpose. It exists, that is enough for me. Objects that can be rough and subtle at the same time, their texture, their shape reminding of trees, bark, or geological formations - like layers of the earth. Other pieces show imprints of my hands or fingers - my signature.
